Good news, Waffle House fans.

Lyn Menne, Decatur’s Assistant City Manager in charge of Community & Economic Development, has confirmed that the late-night restaurant chain with a cult-like following is moving into downtown Decatur.

“Waffle House signed a lease for the space under Eddie’s Attic several months ago,” Menne said. “They have several projects in the works so no drawings have been submitted for permitting at this time. We are working with them on the possibility of bringing back the original storefront as much as possible.”

Menne said the storefront was, “fairly typical red brick but it was changed in the 1980’s.”

The restaurant chain got its start in 1949, right down the road in Avondale Estates.
