The search for the next DeKalb County Schools Superintendent appears to be over.

Parent Councils United, a parent advocacy group focused on the county school system, announced that R. Stephen Green, the current Superintendent of the Kansas City School System in Missouri, is the sole finalist for the job. The Board of Education will hold a press conference on the evening of May 13 to announce the decision, the PCU announcement says.

The Kansas City Star also reported that Green is the district’s top choice to replace Superintendent Michael Thurmond.

According to The Star, Green took over the system after it lost its accreditation, something DeKalb has been threatened with in recent years. The story notes that Green has relatives in this area, which is influencing his decision to take the DeKalb County job. To read that story, click here.

According to his biography on the Kansas City School System’s website, he has been head of that district since 2012.
