The city of Decatur is asking people to register for the annual bonfire on the Square to get a count on marshmallows.

The bonfire takes place Thursday, Dec. 17 from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m.

A post on the city’s blog, The Decatur Minute, says, “We’re trying something new this year for the annual community bonfire and marshmallow roast. To get a better idea of how many marshmallows to purchase, we’re asking folks to register online.”

The city says the event is still free and open to the public. It adds there will be choral groups and holiday music.

It’s all part of Decatur’s Terrific Thursdays, a promotion to encourage shoppers to find holiday gifts locally.

The city’s Menorah Lighting event takes place this Thursday. The annual Christmas tree lighting took place last Thursday, Dec. 3.
