Share

The National Weather Service is warning residents of the metro area and beyond about the possibilities of flash floods related to severe weather.

NWS has issued a flash flood warning for Wednesday, Dec. 30, effective until 1:30 p.m.

According to NWS, radar is indicating a large area of thunderstorms that will produce heavy rain across seven counties, including DeKalb. These areas have seen up to an inch of rain already, and could see another inch or two soon. Flash flooding will begin in areas around Metro Atlanta-area creeks.

Residents are advised to move to higher ground now. If you are driving, turn around and avoid flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

There’s also a flood watch in effect until Jan. 1 at 7 p.m. for dozens of counties in Georgia.
