The Kirkwood Security Patrol is holding its annual town hall meeting on Tuesday, March 1 at 7 p.m.

“We hope you’ll join us for a conversation with Major Timothy Peek, APD Zone 6 Commander, about crime trends over the past year and what we can do to keep Kirkwood safe,” the announcement says. “You’ll also have a chance to meet the KSP officers and our board.”

Kristi Remick, Communications Chair for the Kirkwood Security Patrol board, told Decaturish that the town hall meeting is just to provide a general update about crime in the Kirkwood area.

According to Remick:

The town hall is an annual event held for our members so they can:

– Get a “state of the nation” with respect to local crime
– Obtain additional tips on how to protect themselves and their homes
– Understand the benefit of their membership
– Give our members an open forum to ask tough questions
– Feel valued or “thanked” for their membership

“I suppose neighborhood security patrols are formed in response to a perceived lack of public resources allocated towards safety but this event in particular was not in response to an isolated event or trend, although Maj. Peek will cover current trends during his talk,” she added.
