Decatur Police arrested a man on April 11 after he was accused of burglarizing a home in Oakhurst.

“On Monday, April 11, 2016 at approximately 11:45 am, Decatur Police responded to a report of a suspicious person in the 200 block of Winter Avenue,” Lt. Jennifer Ross said. “The complainant reported seeing a male trying to enter a window at the rear of a house on East Lake Drive.”

When officers checked the home, they found an unlocked, closed window and noted that all of the other doors and windows were secured. Officers searched the area and asked the person who made the call to call back if they saw the man again.

“At approximately 12:31 pm, Decatur Police received a call from another resident in the 200 block of East Lake Drive who reported seeing a suspicious male coming from behind a neighbor’s house carrying a computer bag,” Ross said. “Officers were flagged down by the original caller who pointed out the suspect walking in the 200 block of Mellrich Avenue. The male was carrying bags containing jewelry, a laptop, alcohol, tools and loose change. The home in the 200 block of East Lake Drive, which had previously been secured, was now unsecured and appeared to have been burglarized. The homeowner arrived and identified the items recovered from the suspect as belongings missing from his home.”

Police arrested Michael Johnson, 54, of Decatur. He is charged with first degree burglary.
