A new style of MARTA bus is making its debut this week.

MARTA is unveiling its first “bendy bus,” also known as an articulated bus, which has an accordion-like section in the middle. The idea is to make turns easier for the buses to navigate, as demonstrated in this video:

MARTA’s bendy buses will be powered by natural gas and cost $845,000 per bus. MARTA has purchased 18 of them. They will be used on routes with the highest ridership, the transit agency says.

“With capacity for 53 seated passengers and space for 40-50 standees, the buses are enabled with Wi-Fi that can accommodate light web-surfing and email accessibility,” a press release from MARTA says. “These new vehicles are just one of the many improvements MARTA is providing to enhance the customer ridership experience.”
