Waffle House in the south is a rite of passage. I’m not sure if I know of a single person who has not visited the bright yellow and brown facade that entices you to have an order of scattered, smothered and covered hash browns or a big plate of breakfast or, as their name suggests, a waffle as big as a plate. Friday evening the WaHo off Decatur Square had customers put their money where there mouth was, so to speak, as contestants took to the high counter for a waffle eating contest. Three rounds of hungry waffle lovers ate as many waffles as possible in five minute rounds with a ten minute championship round to follow. Only one could be crowned victorious and this year it was Jason McLin.
