This story has been updated.

Greg Wiseman announced on Wednesday, April 25, that he will be principal at Renfroe Middle School for the foreseeable future.

Wiseman, who previously served as principal at Winnona Park, was named interim principal in January. He replaced Jonathan Clark, who resigned his post at Renfroe in December.

“After a thorough interview process, I have been hired as the principal of Renfroe Middle School,” Wiseman said. “I met with the WP and RMS staffs this afternoon to share the news. Ruth Scott will continue as Interim Principal and Kim Houston as Interim Instructional Coach for the remainder of the school year. The Winnona Park Principal position will be posted by [City Schools of Decatur] in a timely fashion for internal and external candidates. Winnona Park staff and parents, along with CSD administrators, will be involved in this process. ”

Here is the full announcement:

Dear Winnona Park Community,

After a thorough interview process, I have been hired as the principal of Renfroe Middle School. I met with the WP and RMS staffs this afternoon to share the news. Ruth Scott will continue as Interim Principal and Kim Houston as Interim Instructional Coach for the remainder of the school year. The Winnona Park Principal position will be posted by CSD in a timely fashion for internal and external candidates. Winnona Park staff and parents, along with CSD administrators, will be involved in this process. Please stay tuned for future communication about the WP principal hiring process.

So, why am I leaving Winnona? When I accepted the interim role at RMS, I thought it would be a great adventure, and I thought I could lend my expertise to help the school. I’m a loyal servant to City Schools of Decatur, and when my boss asked me to step in, I stepped in. I am so glad I did. It only took about three days for me to realize that RMS is a great fit for me. I’ve really made a connection with the kids, and they were truly my biggest inspiration to pursue this role. After 12 years as principal of WP, this interim role made it clear to me I was ready for a new professional challenge.

I am so grateful for Ruth and Kim’s leadership at WP. I have complete faith in them because they are smart and dedicated professionals. I rocked their worlds a little bit this year, and they handled the challenges with class.

Thank you all so much for your understanding during this transition. Winnona Park is like a second home to me, and I am so lucky to have been a part of this vibrant and fiercely loyal school community. I’ll always cherish the relationships I’ve made with students, teachers, and parents of WP.  I look forward to seeing you around town and when your kids make their way to Renfroe Middle School.

Onward!

Greg Wiseman

He also sent the following email to parents of Renfroe Middle School students:

Dear Renfroe Middle School Community,

I’m sending my weekly eblast a day early because I am very excited to share that I’m joining the Renfroe Middle School team on a permanent basis as the school’s principal. These 11 weeks as interim principal have been an amazing experience, and I hope I’ve made a positive difference during my interim phase for students, staff, and families.

When I first accepted the interim role at RMS, I thought it would be a great adventure, and I thought I could lend my expertise to help the school. I’m a loyal servant to City Schools of Decatur, and when my boss asked me to step in, I stepped in. I am so glad I did.  It only took about three days for me to realize that RMS is a good fit for me. After 12 years as principal of WP, this interim role made it clear to me I was ready for a new professional challenge. I’ve truly enjoyed my time getting to know the RMS community and diving into the day-to-day work, as well as planning for next year.

RMS has a wonderful staff. Assistant Principals Sarah Talton-Buck, Summer Clayton, and Alexis Glenn, and Instructional Coach Kristen Karably are amazing educational leaders, and the teachers and staff are dedicated to making Renfroe the best middle school experience for our kids. I really look forward to working with this group to continue the success of Renfroe Middle School.

Onward!
