This year, the city of Decatur will mark the longest day of the year by hosting a summer solstice yoga event for the community, according to a city newsletter.
According to the newsletter, many cultures throughout history have associated the summer solstice with a “renewal of mind, body and spirit.” Yoga can help achieve that rejuvenation.
Hosted by Cheryl Burnette, Decatur Active Living’s assistant director, the yoga practice will take place on Thursday, June 21, at 6 p.m.on the square in downtown Decatur. The rain location is the Decatur Recreation Center.
The event is free, but a $10 donation to the Decatur Youth Fund is recommended. Attendees should bring a mat, a towel and water.
