A 10-year-old girl at a Scottdale apartment complex is lucky to be alive after she was struck by a stray bullet while sleeping.

The incident happened at 10 p.m. on Aug. 15 at Oak Forest Apartments on Hatton Drive.

According to a police spokesperson, “At about 10 p.m. last night, officers responded to multiple calls of shots being fired within the apartment complex. The victim was asleep in her bed when one round came through her bedroom wall and struck her right arm. Victim was transported to Egleston with non-life threatening injuries. No suspects are in custody and the investigation is ongoing.”
