DeKalb County announces early voting locations, times for upcoming election

With the midterm elections right around the corner, DeKalb county’s early voting will begin Oct. 15 at locations throughout the county.

The general election will take place Nov. 6, but voters can go to the polls beginning several weeks in advance. Early voting in DeKalb will last until Nov. 2, after which voters must go to their assigned precinct on election day.

The county’s early voting locations and dates are as follows:

Voter Registration & Elections Office, 4380 Memorial Drive, Suite 300 Decatur, Ga. 30032: 

  • Monday – Friday, Oct. 15 – Nov. 2, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, Oct. 20 and Oct. 27, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Sunday, Oct. 28, noon – 4 p.m.

South DeKalb – The Gallery at South DeKalb Mall, 2801 Candler Road, Decatur, Ga. 30034: 

  • Monday – Friday, Oct. 15 – Nov. 2, 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Saturday, Oct. 20 and Oct. 27 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Sunday, Oct. 28, noon – 4 p.m

The following locations will each be open the week of Oct. 29 only. Each will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. daily until Nov. 2:

Additionally, absentee ballots (applications can be found here) can be sent in from Sept. 18 until Nov. 2. The deadline to register and be eligible to vote in the November general election is Oct. 9.

People who wish to vote will need to bring one of the following forms of identification, according to the Georgia Secretary of State’s office:

– Any valid state or federal government issued photo ID, including a free ID Card issued by your county registrar’s office or the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS)

– A Georgia Driver’s License, even if expired

– Valid employee photo ID from any branch, department, agency, or entity of the U.S. Government, Georgia, or any county, municipality, board, authority or other entity of this state

– Valid U.S. passport ID

– Valid U.S. military photo ID

– Valid tribal photo ID

If you’re already registered, it’s worth checking to make sure you are still on the voter rolls. So how can you check to see if you’re still registered?

You can look up your status by visiting the Georgia Secretary of State’s “My Voter Page.” To visit the My Voter Page, click here. You can check your status by providing basic information like your last name, birthday and the county you live in. You can also see a sample ballot.

If you find you are not registered, there are a few ways you can get back on the voter rolls.

You can register online with the Secretary of State’s Office by clicking here.

In order to register you have to be a U.S. citizen, a legal resident of a Georgia county and at least 17 1/2 years old. You must be 18 years old to vote, according to the Secretary of State’s Office. For more information about how to register, click here.
