Accident on East College Avenue at South Candler Street sends scooter driver to the hospital

Decatur Police cited both drivers involved in a Feb. 15 accident that sent the driver of a scooter to the hospital.

The accident occurred on East College Avenue at South Candler Street.

Police Lt. Jennifer Ross said a Volkswagen Jetta, was traveling westbound on East College Avenue at South Candler Street and was trying to make a left turn onto South Candler Street. Ross said a Yongfu scooter was traveling eastbound on East College Avenue at South Candler Street.

“The driver of the Jetta failed to yield while turning left, causing the scooter to collide into the rear passenger side door/quarter panel of the Jetta,” Ross said. “The driver of the scooter sustained a laceration to the face and a wrist/hand injury, was alert and conscious, and was transported to an area hospital for evaluation. The driver of the Jetta was cited for failure to yield while turning left. The driver of the scooter was cited for driving on a suspended/revoked license and driving an unregistered vehicle.”
