City Schools of Decatur decided to stick with interim principals appointed to lead Winnona Park and Clairmeont elementary schools last year.

Curtis Armour, a former assistant principal at Decatur High who was appointed interim principal of Clairemont Elementary School, will be the school’s new principal going forward.

“I have had the pleasure of serving as Interim Principal at Clairemont since November and the experience has been amazing! I am fortunate to have been afforded the opportunity to serve in such a welcoming environment,” he said in a letter to parents. “With the support of our district administrators, faculty/staff, and parents, I am certain that our school will continue to flourish.”

He replaced Billy Heaton, who will be the principal of Decatur’s new 3-5 school on Talley Street.

Ruth Scott became interim principal at Winnona Park elementary after Greg Wiseman was named principal of Renfroe Middle School.

“I am honored to announce that I have been offered the position of principal at Winnona Park,” she wrote in a letter to parents. “Having been a part of the Winnona Park community for eight years, I understand what a great privilege this is.”

Here are the full letters from both of the new principals, as well as a letter from Superintendent David Dude:

Dear Winnona Park Community,

I am honored to announce that I have been offered the position of principal at Winnona Park. Having been a part of the Winnona Park community for 8 years, I understand what a great privilege this is. I am excited to continue my work with Winnona Park students, staff, and families! Thank you for your continual support and encouragement of our school and staff throughout this process. I look forward to supporting our district commitment to educational equity and excellence for all students.

Sincerely,

Ruth Scott,
Principal,
Winnona Park Elementary School

Dear CSD Community,

I am pleased to announce that Ms. Ruth Scott has been selected as principal of Winnona Park Elementary. CSD received 29 applications for the position. The first-round interview team, which included teachers, parents, SLT, and district representatives, interviewed five individuals.  After the first round interviews, Ruth stood out as the top candidate for Winnona Park.

Ms. Scott has been the interim principal at Winnona Park Elementary for nearly a year. Prior to being the interim principal, Ruth served as the instructional coach and a special education teacher at Winnona Park. Ruth is passionate about working with the students and families at Winnona Park and is excited to officially be named the principal at the school where she began her career in CSD.

Regards,
Dr. David Dude
