176 Apartments, Parking Garage Planned For Fidelity Building Lot

Share

Decatur’s boom in multifamily housing is not slowing down.

Pace Properties wants to build a 176-unit apartment development in the parking lot of the Fidelity Building at 160 Clairemont Ave.

The project would include a seven-level parking garage in the middle of the site to serve the apartment dwellers and the office building.

One level of parking would be “below grade,” according to the agenda for last month’s meeting of the Downtown Development Authority. The apartments would wrap around the garage.

The project meets all zoning provisions and requires no variances.

Other apartment projects in Decatur include 235 units at 315 West Ponce, the Trinity Triangle development near Dairy Queen and the Callaway Building property at West Trinity Place and North McDonough Street.

Also, Monty Hewett Homes plans to build 24 three-story townhomes on 1.26 acres at the corner of Hillyer Place and East Howard Avenue, about a block from the Ice House Lofts.

Each unit would have a drive-under garage. Shops would be built on the first level facing the street.

The city planning commission will discuss this project next Tuesday.
