The City of Decatur will hold its belated Independence Day celebrations this Saturday, Sept. 28.

It’s a make-up event. The original celebration was cancelled due to a Biblical deluge.

I can’t figure out why officials chose Sept. 28. It wasn’t for lack of calendar availability. The weather should cooperate this weekend.

According to the city’s announcement, “Local talent, Roxie Watson, will play on the bandstand starting at 7 p.m. Fireworks will take place at the conclusion of the concert, around 9:15 p.m. or 9:30 p.m.”

It should be a fun day. The LSU-Georgia football game should be wrapping up shortly before someone lights the first fuse for the fireworks show. Pro-tip: I hear the best place to watch is the parking deck near the county courthouse. I’ll see you there.
