Brittany Luiz

If you’ve been a regular visitor here (thanks, by the way) you may have noticed a few changes on our website.

The biggest change is our new logo that appears on our masthead. It was not my doing.

Credit goes to our new contributor: Brittany Luiz.

I first met Brittany a couple of years ago when we both worked at The Chattanooga Times Free Press. I admired her writing and professionalism. She moved to the metro area before I did and we reconnected within the last year.

The other day I reached out to her and asked her if she’d like to join our growing team. She said yes, and as you can see, we are already much better off because of it. Brittany will be a major contributor for us, and not just because of her excellent writing. She will be another pair of eyes on this website, correcting our grammar mistakes – hey, we’re only human but we do try – and giving Decaturish an aesthetic cohesion that we lacked.

Brittany is a Georgia native, growing up in Conyers and now living in Duluth. She graduated in 2009 from the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism with a degree in Publication Management and spent the next year as a reporter at The Chattanooga Times Free Press in Tennessee.

During her time there, she covered crime, business, education, and local spot news. Following a brief foray into the dark art of public relations, she has spent the last two years working in marketing and graphic design.

In her spare time, Brittany enjoys cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs with her husband, sewing, reading Stephen King novels, and spending countless wasted hours watching reality television.

Brittany will also broaden our perspective. She lives in Duluth and that’s fine by us. As our new logo reflects, Decaturish is based in Decatur but we have a wider view of the world around us. Brittany represents and embraces that concept.

In the coming days you’ll start to notice more of her work and influence.

Please join me in welcoming Brittany. She’s amazing and we couldn’t be happier to have her on the team.
