Our friends at Columbia Presbyterian Church in Decatur send word that the last day of the Clarkston Farmer’s Market is Oct. 27.

The market, which runs April through October,  “Builds community by connecting neighbors to locally-grown, nutritious and affordable foods and celebrates our city’s diverse cultural traditions.”

The final day will feature a food drive and chili cookoff. It lasts from 10 am to 2 pm and will be held at the Large Clarkston Community Center parking lot 3701 College Ave. Clarkston, GA 30021.

“Patrons may purchase a spoon for $5-$10 and sample many styles of chili prepared by Clarkston neighbors, restaurants and community organizations,” a press release for the event says. “Tasters will vote on their top three favorite chilies and the winners will receive prizes, including a basket of market goodies, a $50 gift certificate for photography and Clarkston coaster set and CCC hooded sweatshirt.”

Also, the most needed items for the food drive are:

• Peanut Butter

• Canned Tuna

• Canned Beans

• Canned Soups, Stews and Pastas

• Canned Fruits and Vegetables

• Whole Grain, Low Sugar Cereals

• Rice

• Dry pastas

• Spaghetti Sauce

Also, they need a couple of non-food items:

• Diapers

• Toiletries
