Menorah, Christmas tree lighting on December calendar

Menorah cardIf you’re not into the spirit of the season yet, there are a couple of upcoming events in Decatur that’ll help you get your holly jollies.

First up is the menorah lighting and Chanukah celebration on Dec. 2 in Decatur Square. It begins at 6 p.m. and the event includes donut decorating (I’m sold), Latkes, Sufganiyot and “Mr. Dreidel Photo Ops.”

The Chanukah activities are being sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta, Dressler’s Jewish Funeral Care and Gas South. As you may have heard, Chanukah falls on Thanksgiving this year and the two holidays will never overlap again in our lifetimes. You can click here to preregister to receive a special Chanukah gift.

Then on Dec. 5 there will be a Christmas Tree lighting on the roof of Little Shop of Stories on the Square.

Singing starts 6:30 p.m. and the event begins at 7 p.m. The event falls during the city-promoted Terrific Thursdays.

“Terrific Thursdays is the most Decaturish time for the holidays,” said Dave Shallenberger with Little Shop of Stories. “December 5th, with the tree lighting on our roof and Santa and hot chocolate and treats and choir singing is easily the most terrific of the Terrific Thursdays.”

There’s also a tree lighting in Oakhurst on Saturday, Dec. 7. It begins at 5 p.m. in Harmony Park and will feature singing from the new Oakhurst Choir, according to the Oakhurst Neighborhood Association.
