Icon_PoliceDecatur Police responded two two burglary reports in the Winnona Park neighborhood on today.

– Police spokeswoman Jennifer Ross said officers responded to an alarm at the 200 block of Inman Drive at 10:27 a.m. Nov. 7. When the officers arrived, they saw a broken rear window and a nearby shovel propped against the house, according to police. The homeowner told officers that the shovel came from a shed in the backyard. The  burglar stole jewelry from a dresser in the upstairs bedroom, police said.

– Ross said police also responded to a burglary in the 400 block of South Columbia Drive at 4:07 p.m. on Nov. 7. The owner left the home at 7:45 a.m. and came back at 3:45 p.m. The homeowner noticed a rear window was broken, police said. The burglar took an e-reader and some loose change, police said.

More from Sgt. Ross:

“The types of items stolen and the types of valuable items left behind in these burglaries would indicate the suspect(s) were on foot. Please stay alert, watch out for your neighbors and call if you see persons you do not recognize on your neighbor’s property or if unknown persons knock at your door for no apparent reason other than to check to see if someone answers the door.”
