DecaturWISE program receives award
A Decatur initiative promoting energy efficiency received special recognition during City Commission’s Nov. 4 meeting.
The Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance awarded the city, Agnes Scott College and local contractors for their participation in the DecaturWISE energy efficiency program.
Judy Knight, director of communications for SEEA, told commissioners that Decatur retrofitted 56 single family homes in the city, resulting in an annual energy savings of $866.
The Building Technologies and Research Integration Center at Oak Ridge National Laboratory studied five retrofitted homes at Agnes Scott.
A press release about the award says, “Built in the 1920s, these homes were prime candidates for researching the impact of various retrofit measures on energy efficiency and cost savings in this mixed humid climate zone.”
Knight said engaging Agnes Scott and Oak Ridge made DecaturWISE stand out.
“Your program was unique,” Knight told City Commissioners.
