A developer is planning a development of 22 town homes at Hibernia Avenue in Decatur, GA.

Full disclosure, I live right around the corner from the property in question, located at 109 Hibernia Ave. The property is formerly the site of Christ Covenant Church, a building that’s been vacant and boarded up for months.

The development has stirred up some residents in the surrounding neighborhoods of Rosewalk and Lenox Place. Some residents of Lenox Place believe the property, located on 1.7 acres, was going to be developed into single family units.

Thrive Homes has submitted a site plan for the property, according to city spokeswoman Casie Yoder. Attempts to reach Thrive Homes for comment were unsuccessful. This afternoon Thrive Homes Chief Operating Officer Kirstin Hobday contacted Decaturish about the project.

She said it’s still too early for the company to go into more detail about its plans.

“We are still very preliminary in our evaluation of that site,” Hobday said. “I would prefer to give you information when we do have something solid to share.”

Christ Covenant Church sold the church property to Oak Grove Homes LLC in October of 2012 for $731,000 property records show. I spoke on the phone with Michael Townsend, one of the partners in Oak Grove. He couldn’t confirm that Thrive Homes is the developer, but did say the property is under contract. He said the purchaser has until March 15 to close.
