Decatur Mayor will deliver State of the City speech

UPDATE: This meeting has been cancelled and will be rescheduled due to inclement weather. For more information, click here. Decatur Mayor Jim Baskett will give the annual “State of the City” speech tomorrow, Jan. 28, at the regular Decatur Business Association meeting.

That meeting begins at 5:15 pm and the speech will begin around 6 pm. The meeting will be held at the Decatur Marriott conference center, located at 130 Clairemont Avenue.

Baskett was elected mayor in 2013 and reelected in 2014. In Decatur, mayors and mayors pro tempore are selected by fellow commissioners. Baskett became mayor after Bill Floyd resigned. He was first elected to the city commission in 1995. He lives in the South Candler historic district and he is a graduate of The Candler School of Theology, according to his bio page on the city’s website.
