Icon_PoliceThe area around the scene of a Dec. 26 murder in Kirkwood has seen a sharp increase in crime over the last three years, records show.

Decaturish.com requested Uniform Crime Reports for streets next to the Pullman bike trail where Army reservist X’avier Arnold was shot during a robbery attempt. Two suspects, including one juvenile, have been arrested and charged with killing Arnold.

Most police departments keep Uniform Crime Reports showing Part 1 crime data, reflecting the crimes most likely to be reported to police like robberies and burglaries.

The bike trail connects Rogers Street NE and Warren Street NE.

Data from Rogers Street show a 150 percent increase in Part 1 crimes from 2011 to 2013. There were six Part 1 crimes reported in 2011 and 15 in 2012 and 2013. Warren Street’s crime reports increased by 74 percent from 2012 to 2013.

Burglaries and theft from auto along Warren Street increased by 250 percent between 2012 and 2013, data show.
