Icon_SchoolsSnowmageddon is nigh, and the City Schools of Decatur are cancelling after school events today, Jan. 28, as a result.

For Avondale Estates residents, DeKalb County Schools just announced that classes will be dismissing early today at the following times:

• Elementary schools – 1:30 pm

• High schools – 2:30 pm

• Middle schools – 3:15 pm

Of interest to Kirkwood residents, tonight’s meeting at Maynard Jackson High School to discuss proposals to turn some of the cluster’s elementary schools into K-8 schools has been cancelled.

Fulton County also issued the following bulletin:

Today’s weather pattern has come in faster than initially forecasted. The school day will be ending at 1:45 p.m. for all students – elementary, middle and high. Please feel free to pick up your children at that time. Bus transportation is in progress. We apologize for any inconvenience. Please travel safely.

Decatur, like other metro systems, has called off any activity scheduled after school hours.

“All City Schools of Decatur afterschool programs and afterschool activities have been canceled for today, Tuesday, January 28,” a letter sent to parents says. “All evening activities, athletics practices and games, classes, and meetings scheduled in the City Schools of Decatur are also canceled. Parents of school children participating in after-school programs held in CSD school buildings, such as Pre-K Chex Mix, Animal Crackers, Whiz Kids, Project REAL, tutorials, athletics, or clubs, should make arrangements for their child to be picked up at the regular school dismissal time.”

College Heights has announced a 3 p.m. dismissal time. To check individual dismissal times for your school, it’s best to check the school’s website or call. To see a list of school contact information, click here.

Atlanta Public Schools, Fulton County Schools and DeKalb County Schools have also cancelled after school activities.

UPDATE: And Emory University has shut down for the day, too.
