The leading planning group for Kirkwood has selected new leadership that will facilitate public input on zoning issues affecting the neighborhood.

Neighborhood Planning Unit – O held elections at its meeting on Feb. 25. The NPU-O is an advisory board that makes recommendations to Atlanta’s zoning board and city council. There are several NPU’s all over the city that weigh in on development matters within Atlanta’s distinct communities.

NPU-O typically meets the fourth Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm at the Branham Recreation Center 2051 Delano Drive, NE Atlanta, GA 30317.

Dana Blankenhorn will be the new chairman and said he hopes that he can help get younger people involved with their communities.

“If we can get more people, especially younger residents interested and involved in what’s happening in the community, then I want them to take over,” Blankenhorn said. “I’m 59, you know, and while I don’t feel that old I’m way over the median age in this part of the world. We’ve got a lot of new neighbors here and it’s obvious that they care about the community, but they don’t know how to connect. I’m going to do everything I can to let them know this is a way they can connect.”

Blankenhorn replaces outgoing chairman Earl Williamson.

The new Vice Chairman is Dan Wingate and the new Secretary is Caroline Croland.
