Mayor Jim Baskett has had something to say about Decatur for awhile now.

He was supposed to give the “State of the City” address on Jan. 28, but cancelled it because of severe winter weather. The speech was further delayed when a second round of snow fell in February.

But he’ll finally be able to give his speech tomorrow, March 25, during the Decatur Business Association meeting. The meeting begins with networking at 5:15 pm and will be held at the Decatur Marriott Courtyard Conference Center, located at 130 Clairemont Avenue.

Baskett was elected mayor in 2013 and reelected in 2014. In Decatur, mayors and mayors pro tempore are selected by fellow commissioners. Baskett became mayor after Bill Floyd resigned. He was first elected to the city commission in 1995. He lives in the South Candler historic district and he is a graduate of The Candler School of Theology, according to his bio page on the city’s website.
