Decatur wants you to get up close and personal with how the city spends your tax money.

The city is hosting its Touch a Budget event on March 18, starting at 5:30 pm at the Decatur Recreation Center, located at 231 Sycamore St. The event will focus on the upcoming Fiscal Year 2015 budget.

The announcement for the event says, “The ‘Touch a Budget’ event will feature items included in the proposed budget so come on out and chat with staff, see some cool things and maybe win a prize or two.”

Decatur’s fiscal year starts July 1 and ends June 30.

Decatur’s Fiscal Year 2014 operating budget was $20.7 million. The city’s biggest expenditure was its police department. The police department budget was $5 million, accounting for 25 percent of the FY 2014 expenses. To see the 2014 budget summary, click here.
