The site of the former James Joyce Irish Pub may soon reopen its doors as something new.

The restaurant once known as James Joyce Irish Pub closed in 2012 and property records show that it went into foreclosure. The property at 22 N. Avondale Road has gathered dust waiting for a new investor to come along. Apparently someone has, but the broker for the property isn’t saying who.

Tom Shafer with commercial real estate firm CBRE told Decaturish via email on March 29 that the project is under contract and should close within 90 days.

When asked who the buyer is, Shafer replied, “Redevelopment play. They will be in for site plan approval soon.”

The property’s current owner is SouthCrest Bank, property records show. According to a marketing brochure for the property, the advertised liquidation price for the property is $625,000.

According to the brochure, the building is about 4,600 square feet consisting of three parcels on one acre of land. The restaurant was built in 2002 and features “great on-site parking,” the brochure says.

Avondale Estates City Manager Clai Brown and Mayor Ed Rieker said they both heard someone had purchased the property but they don’t know who the new owner is.

The bar changed its name several times throughout its history, but was marketed by CBRE as the former James Joyce Irish Pub.
