House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams, D-89, will recap the 2014 session of the state General Assembly during a town hall meeting on Saturday, April 12.

The meeting will be held at Greater Piney Grove Baptist Church, 1879 Glenwood Avenue S.E., Atlanta, Georgia 30316. The event starts at 10 am and lasts until noon.  Abrams represents Kirkwood.

So what’s going to be on the agenda?

Director of constituent services Genny Castillo said that in addition to going over legislation passed in the session, Abrams will tell residents who they can lobby the governor on legislation awaiting his signature.

“I think one of the biggest bills that people have had a lot of questions on was the gun bill,” Castillo said.

The gun bill is HB 60, dubbed “guns everywhere bill” by Americans For Responsible Solutions, a group founded by former congresswoman Gabby Giffords. Giffords was gravely wounded in 2011 when a man opened fire during a meeting with her constituents.

The bill would allow guns in places like churches and bars. Castillo said Gov. Nathan Deal hasn’t signed the bill yet.

“All bills that pass are then sent to the governor and he has 40 days to sign them or veto them so they have the opportunity to lobby,” Castillo said.

Abrams will be taking questions at the event, Castillo said.
