A local restaurant is reopening its doors after a five month hiatus.

MARBAR is scheduled to reopen on May 21 at 314 East Howard Avenue in Decatur, Ga.

Spokesperson Michele DeHaven said, “They closed right after Christmas for some restructuring, focusing on service and refining the menu.”

Part of that restructuring includes a new consulting chef. According to a press release from the company, Alison Lueker Ritter, owner and executive chef of Sun in My Belly, has joined MARBAR as a collaborator.

“(Ritter) brings a new style and flair to the dishes you know and love at MARBAR, and adds her New Mexican touch with new items such as mussels borracho, ancho chile-seared tuna steak, and watermelon-chihuahua salad with black pepper-serrano vinaigrette,” the release says.

The restaurant was created by Humberto Bermudez and is described as “an extension of his restaurants in Barcelona and Queretaro, Mexico.”

DeHaven said the restaurant’s owners are looking forward to its return. “We’re very excited about it!”

Editor’s note: DeHaven sent a clarification on May 15 and said that Ritter was going to be a consultant at MARBAR, but would not be leaving Sun in My Belly.
