UPDATE: On May 2, the city reported that this work has been postponed.

“A Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) contractor announced that roadwork on U.S. 278, partially in Avondale Estates, will be delayed. The paving and milling project was previously expected to come through Avondale Estates starting Wednesday night, May 7, but has since been postponed until further notice,” the city said in its email to residents. “The City of Avondale Estates will keep residents and businesses posted with rescheduling updates.”

Here is the original story with the description of the paving work:

The city of Avondale Estates warns residents that they might run into some road closures next week as the Georgia Department of Transportation paves the city’s main thoroughfare, US 278.

“Georgia Department of Transportation contractors will be milling and paving Mountain Drive (S.R. 10) and U.S. 278 (Covington Highway, Avondale Road and College Avenue) starting Monday, May 5, and lasting for about three weeks mostly during overnight hours,” an announcement in the city’s newsletter says. “Lane closures are scheduled, so please plan ahead to avoid construction-related backups. The schedule will be fluid.”
