The Georgia Department of Transportation is repeating its warning from last weekend, saying I-20 roadwork will continue create huge delays.

“Work along I-20 throughout Metro Atlanta will continue this weekend as three projects on I-20 will close lanes all along the corridor, weather permitting,” the announcement from GDOT says. “Georgia DOT is warning motorists to stay off the east-west interstate if possible to avoid delays.  Heavy traffic is expected eastbound, just east of the downtown connector and in Rockdale and Newton counties, and in both directions in Douglas County on the west side.  The Department is encouraging motorists to find alternate routes to avoid long delays.”

On GDOT’s project list:

– A resurfacing project will result in two left lane closures on I-20 eastbound from State Route 138 to Alcovy Road from 9 pm Friday to 5 am Monday.  “Long delays are expected,” GDOT says.

– A resurfacing project will close two right lanes on I-20 in both directions between State Route 5 and Liberty Road. The westbound lanes will be closed from 8 pm Friday until 6 am Monday, and the eastbound lanes will be closed from 7 pm Friday until 5 am Monday.

– The overnight striping work on I-20 inside the perimeter continues. GDOT says it will close three right eastbound lanes from Moreland Avenue to Columbia Drive from 8 pm to 5 am each night – Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
