The Decatur Beach Party returns on Friday, June 20. It’s brought to us courtesy of the Decatur Business Association and will be held in downtown Decatur on the square from 5 pm to 11 pm. Tickets are $5 for kids and $8 for adults. The event announcement says, “Celebrate the start of summer at the famous Ponce Beach with 60 tons of sand, a kids’ board walk with all kinds of fun games, live music, dancing on the plaza, a food court, cold beverages and guaranteed great times for all ages! The Beach Party welcomes headliner A1A, ‘the original and official Jimmy Buffet tribute band,’ to help Beach Partiers ‘get smooth’ and slip into a gentle groove for dancing and relaxing on the plaza. And for the younger set, Douglas Brake and the Sizzle, Hiss, Pop Band return for a special kid’s concert.”
There will be Yoga on the Square on Saturday, June 21, starting at 9 am at the old Decatur Courthouse in the square. The event announcement says, “Join Marti Yura and Cheryl Burnette to welcome in the longest day of the year with a Summer Solstice Yoga Practice. Throughout history, many cultures have associated the summer solstice with a renewal of mind, body and spirit and a celebration of the sense of joyfulness and fun that the sunshine evokes in all of us. Come together with the Decatur Community to celebrate with a morning practice that includes asana, chanting, and sun salutations. The event is free, but donations for the Decatur Youth Fund will be accepted. Please bring your own mat.”
Avondale Estates Farmers Market is held each Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm at the parking lot of Little Tree Art Studios located at 2846 Franklin St.
Sweet Auburn Living Beyond Expectations Demonstration Project will be held June 21 and June 22 at Auburn Avenue from Fort Street Northeast to Jackson Street Northeast. The event announcement says “Experience a two-day street transformation featuring pop-up shops, outdoor cafes, live music, local food, protected bike lanes, community art, celebrations of the history of the Old Fourth Ward and more! This free event will temporarily transform two blocks of Auburn Avenue into model Lifelong Community ‘better blocks’ – places where people young and old can live, work, and play throughout their lifetimes. Stop by the event and help to demonstrate how the Atlanta region can become a Lifelong Community that allows everyone to live life beyond expectations.” The event will last all day.
