Georgia Department of Transportation will continue working on I-20 downtown, east and west of the metro area and will have several projects on the northwest side of I-285.

“Each project has the potential to significantly impact traffic,” an advisory from GDOT says.

There could be afternoon and evening thunderstorms, of course. It’s summer. That could cause GDOT to temporarily shut down weekend roadwork or postpone it.

Here’ s the to-do list from GDOT:

  • On I-20 in Rockdale and Newton counties, two westbound outside right lanes on a three-mile section between Covington and Conyers will be closed continuously from 9 pm, Friday, until 5 am, Monday, for resurfacing. Also, the I-20 WB exit and entrance ramps to U.S. 278/State Route 12 will be closed completely all weekend. Long delays are expected.
  • In Douglas County, two westbound I-20 lanes between Liberty and Post roads will be closed continuously from 9 pm, Friday, until 6 am Monday, also for resurfacing. The outside shoulder will be reinforced so that vehicles will be able to use it as a travel lane and thus keep two lanes open at all times; but again, delays are possible.
  • Downtown, overnight restriping of I-20 eastbound will continue nightly with multiple lane closures from 8 pm until 6 am, between Candler Road and Capitol Avenue, including the EB on-ramp from the southbound Downtown Connector Saturday night (one lane of the ramp will remain open throughout the work).  Also, multiple EB lane closures will be in place duringMonday’s overnight hours, extending from Capitol to Hill Street.
  • On I-285 in Cobb County, two southbound lanes between Paces Ferry and South Atlanta roads may be closed from 9 pm, until 5 am, each overnight (FridaySaturday and Sunday) for concrete slab replacement and repair. Work on various sign construction projects north of this area will continue as well – closing two lanes in each direction between New Northside Drive and Interstate Highway 75 continuously from 9 pm, Friday, until 5 am, Monday; three Westbound lanes between Riverside and Northside drives and two westbound – Inner Loop lanes between GA 400 and the Glenridge Connector will be closed each overnight.
