Things got a little awkward last week for Dayle Hosack.

Hosack was house sitting for a friend who lives in the Medlock area. The friend was vacationing in Italy. The family dog Elliot – a friendly, white Maltese mix taking seizure medication – ran off.

The frantic note came on July 4.

“He’s about 8 years old,” Hosack said. “I am offering a reward for his return.”

Then a week later, Hosack got a phone call.

“A woman called from Lithonia and said she found Elliot a week ago,” Hosack said. “(She) picked him up and said he was tired but OK. Wanted to know how much the reward was.”

No word on how much the finder’s fee was. Whatever the cost, the peace of mind must have been priceless for Hosack and Elliot’s family. Are there any Hallmark cards for losing track of your friend’s dog while they’re away on vacation? Thankfully, Hosack didn’t have to research that.

Hosack said, “I shall sleep well tonight!”

Ditto for the dog and his family.

Welcome back, Elliot, you lucky dog.
