The organizers of the Decatur BBQ Blues & Bluegrass Festival sent this update about preparations for the event:

As August 16th fast approaches the 14th annual Decatur BBQ Blues & Bluegrass Festival is slated to be the biggest and best yet, with a much more cohesive event footprint/venue, 7 hours of great live music and an enhanced kids area festival organizers and attendees are excited for this annual Decatur tradition.

National and local music acts highlight the bill with festival newcomers The Georgia Flood, Kate & Corey, and headliner national bluegrass artist Balsam Range joining favorites Roxie Watson, Larkin Poe and Michelle Malone. There will be a great variety of BBQ options for everyone with Fox Bros., Williamson Bros., Sweet Auburn, and Black Tie BBQ providing varied menus.

The kids and family area will be situated in Harmony Park. Families are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets and enjoy the face painting, train rides, balloon making, a visit from the Atlanta Hawks street team, a live capoeira demonstration and much more. In addition New Belgium will be once again raffling a brand new bike to one lucky winner.

Organizers are making preparations for the main area by laying down 4800 sq.ft of AstroTurf, and bringing in water misters to help with August temperatures. “It’s important that we make the venue as comfortable as possible for everyone” said festival organizer Michael Vajda. “We encourage everyone to bring blankets and beach type chairs to watch and listen to the music, but remember no coolers are allowed.”

Attendees are strongly encouraged to purchase advance tickets by logging onto https://www.xorbia.com/e/rk/decatur-bbq-blues-bluegrass-2014 .

Tickets are $ 10 but increase to $15 the day of the festival. The Decatur BBQ Blues & Bluegrass Festival will be a day of fun (12pm –8pm) benefitting local Decatur charities. Please make plans to come.
