Do you like spending time in Atlanta Municipal Court? Good news!

The City of Atlanta says its Municipal Court is now open five days a week, which means even more opportunities for happiness for the thousands of residents who take time off of work to pay their fines.

New hours began September 8, the city says. With Municipal Court being open five days a week, each judge will have at least two court calendars Monday through Friday. The court will double the number of daily dockets from two to four. Court times under the expanded hours are 8 am, 10 am 1 pm and 3 pm, the city announced.

The city reports that Atlanta Municipal Court is the busiest in the state, brightening the day of thousands of Atlantans and their rowdy out of town guests every year. It processes 200,000 cases annually.

If you thought attending Municipal Court was awesome before, Councilwoman Kecia Lance Bottoms, who pushed for the changes, says you haven’t seen anything yet.

“I am pleased that the Municipal Court Judges will now each conduct court calendars five days a week,” Bottoms said in press release. “More importantly, the public, officers, and attorneys, should now immediately see a difference in the level of service at the courthouse.  This should include shorter wait times and general increased expediency in the handling of matters before the Court.”
