Avondale Estates City Manager Clai Brown said Thursday that the city plans to fill a job opening for a “permit concierge,” a position proposed by the city’s former mayor.

Ed Rieker, who resigned on Oct. 2, pushed for the position prior to his unexpected departure. The concierge would be responsible for guiding applicants through the bureaucracy of the city’s permitting process, something that was moved in-house during Rieker’s administration. The city’s permitting had previously been a function of DeKalb County government.

The deadline for applications was Aug. 29. The salary range was $32,500 to $52,500. There’s been no word about the job since, but Brown said the city will make an announcement soon.

“The permit concierge coordinator position still exists in the city,” Brown said. “Paperwork is being finalized on a candidate and I will let you know on Tuesday once it has been completed.”
