A MARTA bus driver who hit a woman on Sept. 24 was arrested this morning.

Police have charged Leroy Brown was charged with failure to yield and second degree homicide by vehicle. A press release from the Atlanta Police Department says he was transported to the Fulton County Jail.

According to a police report, Brenda Travis was crossing Ralph D. Abernathy at Lee Street and listening to her headphones while looking at her cell phone when Brown’s bus hit her. She was critically injured and died from those injuries on Sept. 27, according to WSB-TV.

The police report concluded that Brown had time to avoid the accident.

“(The bus) was traveling at a speed that he should have been able to slow down to keep from striking the pedestrian,” the report said.
