Decatur’s Swirlin’ Twirlin’ closes

Share

The Swirlin’ Twirlin’ yogurt shop on West Ponce de Leon in Decatur is calling it quits.

A message on the restaurant’s Facebook page says, “Due to some unforeseen events, we are sad to say that as of the New Year we will be closing our doors. We thank our community for a great three years, and want to remind everyone that you can still enjoy our great recipes at our Canton and Flowery Branch locations- find them at Swirlin’ Twirlin’ and Swirlin’ Twirlin’ Canton.”

The momentum seems to be shifting away from frozen yogurt. Within the last year two stores selling ice cream have opened for business. Butter & Cream opened right across the street from The Yogurt Tap. Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams opened in a store formerly occupied by Froyolo.

As contributor Jill Nolin reported back in November, it’s not time to write the obituary for frozen yogurt just yet. Susan Linton, who founded the International Frozen Yogurt Association at the height of frozen yogurt’s popularity in 2013, said the market’s recent cooling off is a natural part of the industry’s maturation.
