A woman told police that a man tried to rob her in downtown Decatur on Jan. 5.

According to a report provided by Decatur Police Sgt. Jennifer Ross, at 8:15 pm police responded to the 100 block of Sycamore Street in response to an attempted robbery. The victim told police that between 7:30 pm and 8 pm she was looking for the entrance to Core Studio when she asked a man for directions.

“The male pretended to have a hard time hearing her and moved closer and asked her to repeat herself,” the report says.  “The male then grabbed her purse.”

The woman held onto the purse and ran. She was not able to provide an exact location of the incident. She wasn’t injured and nothing was stolen.

She described the suspect, “as white male, approximately 30-40 years old, approximately 6 feet tall, (with) short dark hair, unshaven and wearing a dark brown coat.”
