The Beacon Center houses the city’s police department, municipal court and the City Schools of Decatur central offices.
The Ebster Recreation Center includes a new full-sized gym. The city held its first youth basketball game on the new court on Feb. 11, officiated by Mayor Jim Baskett, Mayor Pro Tem Kecia Cunningham and former Mayor Elizabeth Wilson.
Baskett took the honorary first shot and, let the record reflect, that he hit it on his first try.
Decatur Active Living Director Greg White said it was a “historical event in Decatur’s great history.”
Taylor Arnold, one of the players, scored the first goal during a game held at the center.
