Decatur Police will hold a bicycle registration event Wednesday afternoon.

It’s happening at Opening Day of the Decatur Farmer’s Market at First Baptist Church Decatur at 308 Clairemont Avenue from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Sgt. Jennifer Ross said registration includes providing owner contact information, documenting the manufacturer, model and serial numbers, and having a photo taken of your bike.

The process is free and takes just a few minutes, according to Ross.

Since bicycles are commonly stolen and are not registered like vehicles are, Ross said the registration process allows officers to quickly contact owners if they do find a stolen bike.

Ross said the information is kept in a secured database that only police department staff can access.
