Decatur ranks in 2015 safest cities in GA listThe historic Decatur GA courthouse
The city of Decatur ranked as one of the 2015 Safest Places in Georgia. A valuation company called Value Penguin released the study.
Decatur ranked 32nd overall out of more than 100 cities. It came in 9th on the list of midsize cities (population 10-25k).
The study said the overall top five safest places in Georgia are located in the metro Atlanta area. They are: Holly Springs, Johns Creek, Milton, Flowery Branch, and Tyrone.
The report said cities and towns with a population of more than 5,000 were included. That is likely why neighbor Avondale Estates does not appear to be on the list.
The list was compiled using 2013 FBI crime statistics and looked at violent crimes and property crimes. You can read more about the methodology and see the rankings in the 2015 Safest Places in Georgia report.
