Construction will start next month on the Decatur Waffle House that will reside under Eddie’s Attic.

That’s according to Assistant City Manager, Lyn Menne.

Menne told Decaturish that the permits have been approved, and construction on the 24-hour restaurant should start by the end of April.

Menne also said, “They are removing the false façade on the entire building at our request, even though they will only occupy the ground floor.  The original brick should be under the stucco covering.”

The Decatur Waffle House is taking over the former Sammiches n’ Stuff location at 515 N. McDonough Street.

The restaurant chain got its start in 1955, right down the road in Avondale Estates. It’s now a Waffle House Museum, open a few days a week for tours.
