Since 2013, a group of entrepreneurs have been looking high and low for a place where they could live the American Dream: reading comics while drinking craft beer.

While My Parents’ Basement eyed locations in Decatur, it ultimately settled on one that’s long been of interest in Avondale Estates, the vacant James Joyce property. The restaurant has been closed since 2012 and real estate investors scooped it up in 2014. They began looking for a tenant for the 4,593 square foot space soon afterward.

Tim Ensor, co-owner, said the pub space was the right fit for his new business. He said he will be using the restaurant space.

“It’s got an amazing patio. It’s got an awesome bar,” he said. “It’s got a lot of good things going on with it. We like Avondale a lot. They’re an awesome city to work with. There’s a lot of good things happening and we want to be a part of it.”

Ensor added, “And it’s got parking for days. That’s definitely a plus.”

The store’s other co-owners are Lawson Wright and Dave DeFeo. Ensor said he hopes to be open in mid-July or early August.
