Avondale Estates investigation unravels report of armed robbery

The Avondale Estates Police Department has concluded that an armed robbery reported on March 25 is unfounded.
In March, the Police Department sent out an alert saying police had responded to an armed robbery on East College Avenue at Sams Crossing, near the Avondale Estates/Decatur border. Officers said the victim reported two people held him up at gunpoint and took his wallet.
On May 15, the Police Department issued a statement casting doubt on the initial report.
“After an in-depth investigation by the Criminal Investigative Division of the Avondale Estates Police Department, it was determined that the alleged event did not occur as initially reported by the involved subject,” the Police Department said. “The case has been closed and the status changed to ‘Unfounded’.”
