The Oakhurst Streetscape project ran into a complication the morning of May 7, 2015.

According to Deputy City Manager Hugh Saxon, “The intersection of Mead Road and Oakview Road is temporarily closed due to a broken gas line. Atlanta Gas Light has been notified and will be making repairs this morning.”

At 11:35 am, Saxon reported that the intersection has been reopened.

Crews have been working on the Oakhurst Streetscape project. When completed, the project will transform the heart of Oakhurst at the intersections of Oakview Road, East Lake Drive, West Hill Street and West Benson Street. There will be new sidewalks, lighting and trees along these roads. The project will also increase the size of Oakhurst’s Harmony Park. Off-street parking on the park’s south side will be replaced with a pedestrian plaza.

In an update May 1, Saxon said, “Taking advantage of  good weather, CMES, the general contractor, installed a new storm drainage line on Mead Road across from Harmony Park and has made steady progress with new curbing and sidewalks on the north side of the Mead Road extension.”

He said the work was “moving in a northerly direction on the west side of Oakview Road towards West Benson Street.”
