Media clerk at Decatur’s 4/5 Academy passes away
Decatur’s 4/5 Academy at Fifth Avenue informed parents that the school’s Library Media Clerk, Marty McKinnon, passed away on June 3.
McKinnon had been battling cancer, a note from the school says.
According to the school:
Martin Alexander McKinnon, 64, of Decatur, passed away June 3, 2015. Born March 11, 1951, in Fulton County, he was the son of the late Thomas Johnson, Jr. and Edna Jeanette Green McKinnon. A strong, nurturing, family man, Martin devoted his life to his wife and children. He enjoyed instilling knowledge, inspiring children, and working for 16 years with the City Schools of Decatur. Mr. McKinnon is survived by his wife, Charlene Beard; son, Thomas “Mac” Johnson McKinnon, III; daughter, Marjory Azalee McKinnon; sister, Constance and husband, Jim Hope; brother, David and wife, Lovella McKinnon; daughter-in-law, Pamela Feltman; granddaughter, Aria Skye McKinnon; and many more loving family and friends.
A service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 5. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home, 2773 N. Decatur Road Decatur, GA 30033. A graveside service will follow at New Bethany Cemetery, Buford, GA 30518.
It is the second City Schools of Decatur employee to pass away in recent months. In May, Winnona Park Elementary reported that Margaret Harris, a nutrition worker at the school, passed away from a stroke.
“She worked for City Schools of Decatur for 21 years and would have retired from the school system in May,” a note from the school said.
